Digital X-ray and CT Cone Beam
Prexion-excelsior-3d-technology
X-rays and CT scans both use similar technology, but the difference is monumental. X-ray creates a 2-dimensional image of hard tissue (teeth and bone). The CT creates astonishingly detailed 3-dimensional images of hard and soft tissue.
CT Cone Beam imaging is extremely safe and emits ultra-low radiation. In fact, you get more radiation from a 5 minute walk outdoors. The cone-shaped beam of the CT works by taking hundreds of tiny slices of information, each at a different depth, then it assembles all of this into a virtual model that can be examined in layers, 0.3 millimeters at a time. These images allow us to see blood vessels, nerves, infections, microscopic fractures, and tumors that could never be diagnosed with traditional x-rays alone.
At OASIS Modern Dentistry & Orthodontics, we still use digital x-rays on occasion, but we always take advantage of cone beam technology before beginning any surgical treatment. This minimizes risks and ensures that there are no surprises during surgery.
Intraoral Cameras
Intraoral cameras are specialized tools used to show patients the inside of their mouths. The entire camera is only about the size of a toothbrush and is connected to a computer via USB. After the small lens at the tip is briefly inserted into the mouth, we display the digital images on a monitor so the patient is able to see exactly what the dentist sees.
The digital photos help show plaque build-up, cavities, and decay. Capturing these images also allow us to create before and after pictures so our patients can clearly see the impact of the work that’s been done.
At OASIS Modern Dentistry & Orthodontics, we really appreciate how intraoral cameras enable our patients to visualize their treatment options and become more involved in their dental care decisions.
Laser Dentistry
The FDA has approved lasers for the treatment of many dental conditions. The use of laser dentistry at OASIS Modern Dentistry & Orthodontics, provides treatment options that are more comfortable, cost efficient, require less time, and offer faster recoveries than traditional methods.
Laser dentistry instruments work by focusing a very narrow beam of light energy that produces a cellular reaction when it comes into contact with tissue. When a laser is used in soft tissue surgery, the light separates and reattaches the tissue as it works, completely eliminating the need for stitches or local anesthesia.
There are many uses for these versatile tools in dentistry including: cavity detection, dental fillings, tooth sensitivity, crown lengthening, TMJ, cold sores, surgery, and teeth whitening.
